AI Agent in the Wild: Instruct AI

AI Agent in the Wild: Instruct AI

If you've been following this blog for a while, you know I love exploring AI productivity tools. From Cursor to Notebook to Napkin AI - I'm always on the lookout for something that improves/changes the way I work. So when I came across Instruct AI in a blog I was reading on Medium, I had to give it a go.

What is Instruct AI?

Instruct AI is a general AI agent - you tell it what you need, and it gets the job done. You just need to describe the task, connect your apps and tools and it will execute a task on your behalf. You can use it to create reports, automate recurring workflows, manage pipelines and a lot more.

What I Did

One of their blogs mentioned that it can auto-generate videos based on your description. I thought lets put this feature to the test. I asked Instruct AI to:

Create a professional branded promotional video (45–60 seconds) for Medha Khurana. Highlight her personal journey and thought leadership, and drive viewers to explore her blog at medhakhurana.com. Take content from https://www.medhakhurana.com/ and https://www.linkedin.com/in/medha-khurana-17aa3b16b/.

And within minutes, I had a promotional video.

I'll be honest, my first reaction was "wait, it actually worked?". The fact that an AI could scan my website and LinkedIn, understand the kind of content I create, and piece together a video entirely on its own is genuinely impressive. That's not a small thing.

What I Liked

The overall video turned out well. The structure made sense, the pacing was reasonable, the spellings were correct, the video looked engaging, and it captured the general vibe of what I do. For a first prompt, zero manual input, zero iterations, I think it performed above my expectations.

What I love most about tools like this is how low the barrier to entry is. You don't need to be a video editor. You don't need a creative brief. You just need to show up with your links, and the agent does most of the heavy lifting for you.

Where It Could Be Better

The video pulled content from my first blog post only. Which means it missed the full breadth of what I write about, like the AI productivity tools, the tutorials, projects, the reflections, and the book reviews. If you only read my first blog, you'd get a pretty narrow picture of who I am as a writer.

Ideally, I'd want the agent to scan across multiple posts or at least give me the option to select which ones to include. A little more context would go a long way in making the video feel more representative.

My credits ran out before I could iterate further, which is a shame because I think with one more pass, the output could have been significantly richer.

PS: You only get 50 credits free.

Closing

I've been thinking a lot about agents lately, not just as end users, but as builders too. In my recent demo on building an AI Agent in Databricks, I coded an agent from scratch using LangChain and Unity Catalog functions as tools. The agent could independently decide which tool to call and return a data-backed answer - no manual query, no dashboard digging. The underlying idea is the same - you define the goal, give it the right tools, and let it reason through the problem. Instruct AI is the no-code version of that.
